Butterfly Kills

Butterfly Kills: A Stonechild and Rouleau MysteryButterfly Kills: A Stonechild and Rouleau Mystery by Brenda Chapman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I got a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This is no way has influenced my review

I did not read the first book in this series and since this book is book 2…it was a little difficult at first trying to figure out what was going on with the characters. MY BAD…

Jacques Rouleau is looking after his hill father. He moved closer to be with him and started a new job. He needs a new detective and being pushed to hire on fast. He wants his old pal Detective Kala Stonechild. She is toying with him and says she will join his team on a temp bases just to help solve a murder, then she will decided if she wants to be permanent or not.

There are two investigations going on throughout the book. One is Della Munroe who filed domestic abuse charges on her husband and has bruises to prove it. The other is of a grad student who was found brutally murdered in her own home. She was one of 5 psychology grad students who man a crisis center phone line. Rumors are spreading that she was having an affair with a married man but no one can figure out who this married man could be. .

In alternate chapters we also meet a Indian girl Dalal who is struggling to conform to her parents traditional rules. Her older sister had rebelled and left. She is pretty much a slave in her own home, her dream of becoming a nurse seems to not happened because she is destined for an inevitable arranged marriage. With family honor at stake and some twisting turns a threat may just be around the corner from someone pretty close to home.

As the investigation progresses we are weaved along with the story lines pulling together and some really hard stuff begin to surface. Kala and her partner Paul are on a race to save the next victim and the last part of the book will have you turning pages so fast you will not be able to put the darn book down and you will be trying to figure out who dun it!!!
