Up In here

Up in Here: Jailing Kids on Chicago's Other SideUp in Here: Jailing Kids on Chicago's Other Side by Mark Dostert
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I recieved a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Well... I was excited to read this book. Since I work for a federal super Max prison, I thought I could possiable relate to this story even though it was about jailing kids. Even the baddest of the bad kids.

But all I got was crying. This whole book was nothing about the author crying about how much he hated being a "correctional officer" for the kids, and how scared he was being around this kids. The author let the kids push him around and refused to stand up for himself. He also then complained that staff thought of him as the wuss... WELL GROW A PAIR.....

It also didnt help that the author was the only white person in whole facility and felt that was why he was getting treated that way.

Let me tell you from experience. Dont take a job if you know you can't handle it. You knew you were going to be around dangerous offenders. You knew there is a possibility that you can be stabbed and die at work. Yes it is scary, but SHIT GROW A PAIR OF BALLS!

Inmates respect you a lot more when you stand up for yourself and enforce policy. They know policy and they just want to see what you are willing to let them get away with.

VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS BOOK!!!!
